Crab is not crab, it's surimi (fake crab). Beans seem to be doctored out of a can. Fish tacos seem to be breaded fish sticks cut and stuffed into a small tortilla. Shrimp is mostly non-existant in the dish. Relleno appears to be be out of a box. The whole meal seems to have came off the back of a food service truck, with minor alterations. Chef is not subject to accepting criticism. A shame, since the service is pretty decent.
His mom Maria had her restaurant in Great Falls, Mt and had the exact same recipes hers was called "Marias". recipes are passed down. They are authentic. Her place closed. couple years later Victor open another in Great Falls and Maria manages it. SO DELICIOUS! I go there all the time. I love the salsa. You think its watery but thats the way it is. Its not thick salsa. Its different for a reason. It has so much flavor. I get Tacos al Carbon. DELICIOUS. Its carne asada steak tacos with pico de gallo. yummy!!!!! their beans and rice are so yummy to!!!
Victor Marcial's father opened El Corral in Great Falls in 1996, and his uncle still has El Corral open in Seattle Washington for over 25 years. Those are the recipes that Victor is using.
Have you tried the guadalajars restaurant downtown in billings. Its been voted readers choice award 7 times in a row for best mexican restauran in bilings, montana.
My family of 6 visited the El Corral and were absolutely delighted with the experience! The food was very authentic and tasted great. The service was top-notch and the restaurant was very clean. Overall a great value for your money.
El Corral has excellent food and service. I ordered the #9 (pick two) and got the chicken enchilada, tamale and rice & beans all for $9.00. Everything was very fresh and homemade tasting. The rice and beans were awesome mixed with the enchilada sauce. The tamale was really fluffy tasting (a sign of good, homemade food) and the enchilada had a great flavor. The food was presented were well, and the temperature was very hot. The only negative to El Corral, I thought, were the chips and salsa. The restaurant is very clean too. Overall if i had to rate it, i'd rate it as a 5 for excellent. This is our new favorite mexican food restaurant in Billings and will definitely be back.
El Corral has the most authentic Mexican food I've found in Montana! You can tell that the recipes used by Victor Marcial came from Mexico. The food reminds me of the food you might find in the border towns between Texas and Mexico. I highly recommend El Corral to anyone who wants to experience Mexican food the way it was supposed to be.
